AGENDA AGM MINUTES 2024
FEATURED GUESTS
We’re honoured to welcome the Lake Babine Nation (LBN) Guardians to share their groundbreaking Moose Enhancement Project — a 5-year, community-led plan developed with the BC Government to restore moose populations across 6,500 km² of LBN territory.
With action rooted in both Indigenous knowledge and science, the project is changing forestry practices, managing predators, and closely monitoring results using GPS collars, cameras, and aerial surveys.
Through respectful ground-based harvesting, the Guardians are learning how predator reduction influences moose recovery — while also using the opportunity to pass on cultural teachings to youth, including harvesting, skinning, and tanning practices.

Standing for election at 2025 agm

Wendy Cary, Treasurer
My family own and operate Scoop Lake Outfitters in NE BC. We have been involved in numerous conservation efforts in the NE and are passionate about the wildlife and the wildplaces in BC. I have lived in BC since I was 4 and know that this province should be the envy of the world for wildlife and wilderness. We desperately need to get the politics out of wildlife management and make BC “Super Natural BC” again.
I feel Hunters for BC is an organization that is thinking outside the box to make this happen. I have been privileged to sit on the board since mid COVID as Treasurer. I feel I bring the Northern perspective to the board along with the non resident hunting side. Also as a non hunter myself I often view situations differently and perhaps add a depth of understanding to some of our provincial wide issues.

TJ Burns, Director
As a hunter, I feel the real impacts of other conservationists in our province. But there is so much more to do. Last year, I took on this role to do my part for that conservation effort. I have been involved in the predator/ prey committee, the Eneas Project and the branding committee. Our team of directors are developing exciting opportunities for our organization to make meaningful contributions. I am excited about the chance to continue to learn, support and execute on those opportunities for this organization for another 2 years.

Evan Holmgren, Director
I am a hunter who takes an active role in conservation. As the farmer tends to his crops, so must we tend to our herds and habitat.
I have been a director at Hunters for BC for the past year. In this time, I have been directly involved in two committees: CWD and Branding. I have also taken on a support role with the organization, helping fill the gaps, working through maintenance tasks on the website and doing some writing and research. I co-represent Hunters for BC at the Fish, Wildlife and Habitat coalition.
Outside of Hunters for BC, I have volunteered in numerous watershed cleanups, sheep counts and marsh projects. I am an active member of the Pitt Waterfowlers, a group of hunters who care for the waterways and marshlands of Pitt Meadows. The team has established habitats for wood ducks through their nesting box program for 12 years.
I’m seeking another term to continue to work I have started with this great organization.
Evan Holmgren

Member and director of Hunters for BC since the beginning, I am pleased to put my name forward for another term. I have learned so much about wildlife conservation these past years, I feel confident I have more to offer going forward.
DAVID ABBOTT, MEMBER
Originally from the UK and raised in a non-hunting family, I first picked up a shotgun at 18—and it changed the course of my life. Hunting has since taken me on incredible adventures, introduced me to lifelong friends, and shaped my connection to the outdoors in a profound way.
Before moving to B.C. in 2019, I worked seasonally in the UK as a hunting guide and government deer culler. Since relocating, I’ve embraced the challenge of relearning hunting in B.C.’s vast and diverse landscapes. I currently work as a hunting guide in the East Kootenays, balancing the demands of the guiding season with a deep commitment to conservation and wildlife management.
My passion for the environment and ethical hunting practices is what drives my involvement with Hunters for BC. As a father, I’m dedicated to ensuring that hunting traditions and access to wild spaces are protected for future generations.
